Pottery Workshop- Sip & Create- Sgraffito Serving Plate

  • Rediscover Ceramics 6 Jack Road Wattle Grove, WA, 6107 Australia (map)

NEW WORKSHOP- Sgraffito Platter or Plate, painted with your choice of colourful underglazes and then lean how to do some simple carved designs into the surface.

This is a great project for foodies, a beautiful addition for the home, and a handmade item you can use for life. This larger plate (28-30cm) can serve multiple yummy food options, perfect for any occasion.

If you have never worked with clay before please feel very welcome to come and experience the fun and satisfaction of creating something functional with your hands. On the day Danica will take you through the making process, and you can decorate and personalize your items as you wish. Items will be hand built using stoneware clay. You will be able to paint your work with colourful underglazes and then either sgraffito carve back into the design, or add multiple layers of different colours to create a beautiful feature work.

*Sgraffito carving is a technique Danica uses within her black painted homewares and tablewares - such as her Golden Wattle vases or Banksia Mugs. It is when you paint a slip or underglaze onto almost dry clay, and then carve it back with sharp tools to create a engraved white line/ design.

You may choose to pre draw a design you wish to transfer onto your plate, trace around nature, or do simple linework, which often looks very striking. Danica will demo multiple techniques and give you ideas on the day.

During this workshop you will be making one larger platter and a small nibble dish (used as a practice piece).

These classes are perfect to enjoy with a group of friends or come along by yourself and meet new ones. They are social, relaxing and heaps of fun.

No previous experience needed- classes are modified to suit all participants.
